About Kinkora Golf Course

Rooted in the Land Since 1887

The story of Kinkora Golf Course begins long before the first tee box was built.

In 1887, the Higginson family journeyed to Sardis from Ontario on the newly completed Canadian Pacific Railway. They arrived with a boxcar full of family belongings and livestock, purchasing 120 acres of farmland in what was then a growing agricultural community.

Over the decades, the land supported sheep, dairy operations, and fruit farming — becoming part of the agricultural fabric of South Chilliwack.

From Family Farm to Golf Course

In 1982, Heather and Don Forbes moved onto 70 acres of the family farm owned by Heather’s parents, Edith and Archie Barr. The land briefly operated as a commercial market garden before the family began exploring a new direction.

Through a family connection, renowned B.C. golf course designer Gordie McKay saw potential in the property. He believed the land was ideally suited for a par three course that could serve the local community.

In 1988, the course layout was finalized, financing was secured, and construction began in June 1989.

On July 1, 1990, Kinkora Golf Course officially opened to the public.

Looking Ahead

More than three decades after opening, Kinkora Golf Course continues to provide accessible golf for players of all ages and experience levels.
